PROJECT FEATURE: Weathered in Miami Beach

This past August I had the chance to collaborate with Lead Designer Lisa Whyte and the new Lead Designer of Dkor Interiors, Karina Donadel for the design and project management of this beautiful apartment in Miami Beach. We wanted to evoke a sense of timelessness that would bring both comfort and luxury to this family of five. For this we used many different textures like this fine silk wallpaper from Phillip Jeffries, to the cool honed travertine we wrapped around the central pod, to the soft ivory cowhide rug from Artefacto, the weathered wooden planks of the dining room walls and the…

SECOND LOOK: The Setai In Miami Beach

In 2005 Hotelier Adrian Zecha and designer Jean-Michel Gathy of Denniston International Architects collaborated in bringing to life the swanky Setai Hotel in Miami Beach, FL. This week I had the pleasure of revisiting the hotel as our firm is working on the interior design of one of the residential penthouses. As I was waiting in the hotel lobby I observed the multitude of materials that refer back to Asian architecture. The weathered black pavers on the floors are reminiscent of Chinese roads. The rhythm in the wooden panels reminded me of the proportions of screens in Japanese temples. The…

ALEMANYS 5 by Anna Noguera

I’ve always been in love with new architecture that interjects with old architecture to create another being. In these buildings the charm and history of the past still remain while the appearances of modern design make the old relevant and fresh through it’s new interpretation. Barcelona based architect, Anna Noguera converted this 16th century house in Girona into two holiday apartments. In the dining seen in the photo above the thin steel casing framing the opening and the contemporary furniture beyond is a perfect example of this harmonious marriage. Below, the beauty of the placid rectilinear pond next to the…

PROJECT FEATURE: Casa BOX

Project Feature vol. 1 This 387.5 squared ft getaway on the shores of Sao Paulo was designed by Brazilian architects Alan Chu and Cristiano Kato as a maid’s quarter . The petite treasure of a building was featured in the 8th Brazilian Architecture Biennale in 2009. This often forgotten programmatic space was given a new importance in the Casa Box. The upper bedroom juts out from the large boulder adjacent to it as the kitchen grows organically below. The structure is at once modern and contextual with the use of linear forms and natural materials such as stone and wood….

WALK THROUGHS: Modern Ocean Penthouse

These are photos from one of the most recent projects from Miami based interior design firm DKOR Interiors. The design of the ocean-front penthouse borrows from the seashore nearby it’s curvilinear forms, organic textures and abundant light accentuated with the repetition of white. The result? An airy modern beach house in the sky. Photos by Renata Bastos

GET THE LOOK: Sarah Jessica Parker’s House in Bridgehampton

The bright, cheery and casual attitude of this house struck a cord in me. Maybe it’s because I’ve been seeing so much beige or maybe it’s the extreme minimalist interiors that just aren’t calling my name at the moment. Either way I came across this project and found it charming and appropriate that SJP and Ferris, I mean, Matthew Broderick would share this lovely abode. If you feel a tingly sensation and would like to emulate some of this colorful casual elegance below the photos of the rooms from Elle Decor are some key elements to help you get the…
